Mahr

Let's see the Mahr/Sadaq/Ujurahunna in Islam. Mahr means dower in simple terms. Scholars have varying opinions on which of these terms to be used in tempoerary or in permanent marriage.

The word “ujurahunna” which means “their dowries” is a clear proof that it is about mut‘ah because in the case of permanent marriage, such words as “mahr” or “sadaq” is used. ~ Sayyid Rida Husayni Nasab

But the word ujurahunna (from Surah 4:24) means 'their wages', when we translate it. Remeber this and we will see it more below.

Anyway, whatever it may be, let's see their opinion on why should one Muslim man is giving this Dower (mahr) to women.

Now we will see The Qur'an 4:24

When you at the Tafsir of this Tafsir Ibn Abbas 4:24 you get more clarity on this.

Note that dowry is for an agreed marriage which has a limited amount of time. What kind of a marriage is that? It is called temporary marriage or Mutah Nikah.

Oke, the Mahr (dower) is considered as a gift or payment that is given to the women for what the man has enjoyed from her. Let's see what can be enjoyed from a women in later this post.

Now let's look at how Allah's apostle give Mahr in Sahih al-Bukhari 4201

Before going to anything other, let's see how Safiya become a slave. Because she was the wife of a rich person Kinanah History of Tabari - Volume 9 (page:134-135)

Muhammad freed her by attacking her on the day of Khaybar and forced to convert to Islam and freed her to become his wife.

Now how much can this Mahr be? Read Sahih hadith Musnad Ahmad 285

So the Mahr, that should be given to women should be cheap.

Even knowing Quranic verses can be a Mahr Sahih al-Bukhari 5141

So we understand that Mahr can be anything that should be given to women for what? marriage..?

Let's read: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1102 and understand Mahr is not just given for marriage, it is given for enjoying the private parts of a women similar to Quranic verse 4:24

Read this: Sunan an-Nasa'i 3355, the wife is keep coming to Muhammad to get her Mahr (dowry) similar to her same level women even after her husband is died.
